Vikings Ponder visits Fargo Scheels to promote College SAVE 
David Ponder, the father of quarterback Christian Ponder, is pleased the Minnesota Vikings drafted left tackle Matt Kalil to protect his son. “We’re huge fans of Matt,” David Ponder said with a smile during a Friday news conference at Scheels. More than 500 fans gathered at Scheels to get an autograph from Ponder.

He was a World War II veteran, an accomplished photographer, a successful businessman, a philanthropist, a missionary and a devoted family man.
Fred B. Scheel, who died Saturday at age 90, was the third generation in the line of Scheel men to own and operate the family’s sporting goods empire that began in 1902 as a small hardware and general merchandise store in Sabin, Minn. During his 40-plus years with the business, the Scheels brand expanded into sporting goods, eventually including the launch of the first Scheels All Sports Superstore in 1989 in Grand Forks.
