Minnesota doesn’t rebate its sales tax to Canadian shoppers, and Canada does not reciprocate to us either.
I believe we need to keep our sales tax dollars working for us in the community rather than refunding them.
A citywide sales tax measure here was teetering on the edge of passage Tuesday night, with the majority of Fargo precincts reporting. The proposed extension of a half-cent infrastructure sales tax needed 60 percent of the citywide vote to pass. With 17 of 20 precincts reporting as of 10:55 p.m., 59.66 percent of Fargo voters approved of city Measure 1, while 40.34 percent voted it down.
How many out-of-state companies pay North Dakota income tax and sales tax, what is the percentage compared to the in-state payers and what is the dollar value of income tax and sales tax collected from out-of-state companies?
It looks as if factors finally are coming together to make it unnecessary to tolerate this unfair competition, in which local retailers must collect sales taxes but online merchants don't.
The applicable cliche is 'leveling the playing field.'
This bill will give states such as North Dakota the ability to move the responsibility off the shoulders of the consumer and put it back onto the retailer by requiring online sellers to collect and remit sales tax.
A Minnesota Vikings stadium tax would be levied over the next 30 years in Ramsey County, Minn., in order to fund a facility that thousands of people from all over the state and Upper Midwest would use. The people who will be taxed should have a voice.
