Highway 85 about 16 miles south of Watford City is closed due to a landslide that moved dirt and debris onto the road Friday afternoon, the North Dakota Department of Transportation confirmed shortly before 6 p.m.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol will close Interstate 94 from Moorhead to Alexandria and Highway 10 from Moorhead to Detroit Lakes at 7 p.m. today due to hazardous road conditions.
The state Transportation Department says N.D. Highway 20 is closed about 12 miles south of Devils Lake at Spring Lake because of the high water and saturated road conditions. Traffic is being detoured.
UPDATED 10:45 A.M. North River Road in East Grand Forks temporarily is no longer a route to U.S. Highway 2 and Grand Forks, thanks to rising floodwaters that have forced the closing this morning of the road in that area.
The street, which has a gravel surface, has become too soft to support traffic now that the frost has come out of the ground. The street is expected to remain closed to through traffic for the next two or three weeks.
Official: ‘Be careful and safe’ Les Noehre, Grand Forks district engineer, said there is less than 2 inches of water covering some areas of the road, but short stretches may have slightly more water. These areas are marked with reduced speed signs, flags, cones and vehicles with flashing beacons. So far, motorists are doing a good job slowing down, and there have been no problems yet, he said.
Interstate 29 from Grand Forks to the South Dakota border has been closed this morning because of snow and blowing snow that is causing nea zero visibility, the North Dakota Department of Transportation said.
