Gov. Mark Dayton’s budget proposal would add more than $3.1 billion in new tax revenue over the next two years. Higher income taxes on the richest Minnesotans would bring in about $1.1 billion, but the rest has to come from somewhere. Businesses are worried they, and their customers, would take the hit.
An outdoor heritage fund that would dedicate $10 million in annual oil revenues for conservation and a push to increase the budget for the state Game and Fish Department stand to be among the biggest conservation-related issues on the agenda when North Dakota lawmakers convene in Bismarck.
This year’s legislative session begins Tuesday.
Minnesota gay marriage supporters including a Democratic-backed political fund, a state gay rights organization and state candidates, will split a $150,000 donation from a leading gay rights organization, after Target Corp. gave the same amount to a group helping a GOP gubernatorial candidate who opposes gay marriage.
