Minnewaukan hopes berm will keep lake at bay 
People in this Benson County, N.D., seat of 290 have been battling the lake for the past 15 years, relocating its lagoons and rebuilding its sewer system, among other emergency repairs. Construction of a 3,000-foot-long temporary clay dike could start by Friday. The hope is that the berm will buy the school and the community time to relocate to higher ground.

Fargo needed a new library. Grand Forks needs a new library. To pay for its new library, Fargo proposed a sales tax increase. Last week, Grand Forks’ mayor proposed a sales tax increase to pay for our new library.
In Fargo, the sales tax referendum passed with 62 percent of the vote.

A Wisconsin man is accused of stabbing a Minnesota man on Christmas because he wanted “to see what it felt like.” Nicholas Leigh Tretter, 29, River Falls, Wis. was charged this week with second-degree assault.
