Ideas for providing property tax relief abound in Bismarck this session. Tax Commissioner Cory Fong joked recently that in the Legislature, property tax bills are like bellybuttons: Every lawmaker has one.
A judge scheduled an April 3 hearing on a lawsuit that accuses Tax Commissioner Cory Fong and other officials of illegally using public funds to fight a constitutional amendment that would abolish property taxes.
Authorities said an argument over a pair of shoes led to criminal charges against a southwestern Illinois woman and her dad. Prosecutors charged the 24-year-old woman with criminal property damage, while her 47-year-old dad was accused of aggravated battery.
