Health will be a key factor in Grand Forks Red River’s bid to win the East Region boys track meet. The regional will be held today in Fargo, beginning at 1 p.m. On the line are a lot of berths for next weekend’s Class A state meet in Bismarck — the top six finishers in each event, as well as all entrants who meet state qualifying standards, advance.
Change is coming to Minnesota Section 8A boys hockey.
Beginning next season, the 8A tournament format will change. Rather than having the entire tournament at one site, play-in and quarterfinal games will be hosted by the teams with the highest seed.
An unconventional lineup is starting to pay off for Munich-Starkweather.
Instead of playing the tallest players near the basket like most teams, the two tallest Magic Storm boys basketball starters are on the perimeter. Mitchell Wirth is a 6-foot-4 point guard, while Lucas Dick is a 6-3 wing.
The Prowlers returned only four starters from last season’s team that finished fourth at the state tournament. Youth abounded in the lineup, with only two seniors and one junior amongst the 10 regulars. Yet, Thief River Falls is heading for its sixth consecutive state dual tournament, beating East Grand Forks Senior High 6-1 in the 8A championship.
