The 210-mile CapX2020 line will run from a substation near Casselton, N.D., south and east, passing near Hickson on its way to Minnesota. The North Dakota Public Service Commission already has found that the project with 33 miles of line in the state is justified but has yet to approve the line's route. No deadline has been set for a decision.
A proposed power line in western North Dakota will help export some of the region's wind energy to Minnesota. Allete Inc. wants to construct the line along the border between Oliver and Morton counties. It will stretch for about 11 miles and cost $10 million to build.
The projects are intended to serve as pilot demonstrations of streamlined federal permitting and improved cooperation among federal, state and tribal governments. The projects are expected to create thousands of jobs, help avoid blackouts, restore power more quickly when outages occur and reduce the need for new power plants.
The man had been working on a friend's house, scraping it before painting, when a 40-foot ladder he and two other men were moving came into contact with a power line about 30 feet up at about 2:50 p.m. Friday.
A truck driver hit a large power line with an upraised truck box Wednesday at the Hebron Brick & Block Supply Co., 1625 N. 36th St., in Grand Forks, shorting the wire and blowing out the truck’s tires.
Motorists in central and south central North Dakota should expect short delays of up to 20 minutes over the coming weeks due to crews repairing downed power lines. The North Dakota Highway Patrol will be directing traffic on the affected roadways. Motorists are asked to use caution when coming upon these work sites.
UPDATED 11:54 A.M. Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative says about 160 linemen from across North Dakota and from other states will be working throughout south central North Dakota on Monday to restore power.
