Jacob Hagler ran the show for a North Star team that went to five Region 4 championship games and three state tournaments including a state championship as a sophomore. Now, the 6-foot-2 point guard will play an unfamiliar role -- contributor.
On Thursday, Hagler joined a select group when he scored the 2,000th point of his career. He had 28 points in a 58-53 win against Dupree, S.D., giving him 2,017 points in a career that began as a varsity backup as a seventh grader.
As a point guard, Jake Hagler regards his primary role as a playmaker rather than a finisher.
But the North Star junior is a very capable scorer, as he showed Saturday at Grand Forks Central High School in the 17th annual Dick Compton Memorial Shootout.
Jonah Schwartzenberger had a combined 543 yards in total offense this morning, leading Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter to a 50-42 win against North Star in the North Dakota 9-man high school football championship in Fargo.
Daniel Grande knows that North Star has the No. 1 spot in the North Dakota Class B boys basketball poll this week. The sophomore guard wasn’t looking for the information. He happened to hear the rankings on the radio.
When Bryan Haugen talks about being less reliant on the passing game this fall, it’s all relative.
Less passing for Haugen’s North Star high school football team is still more passing than for most teams.
