About 160 North Dakota National Guard soldiers who served a year in the Middle East are back on American soil. The soldiers are from nearly 70 communities across North Dakota and into Minnesota. They deployed to Kuwait last August.
The commander of the North Dakota National Guard's 81st Civil Support Team is retiring. Lt. Col. Larry Shireley, of Bismarck, is stepping down after more than 12 years of service with the unit. He will be replaced by Lt. Col. Mark Quire, of Bismarck.
Some North Dakota National Guard soldiers are returning from a six-month deployment to Southwest Asia. The members of the Air National Guard's 119th Civil Engineer Squadron are to fly into Fargo on Thursday.
