Staff Sgt. Teresa Pavljuk, a member of the state Air Guard’s 119thWing, will arrive in Fargo just before 1 p.m. Her duty recently in Iraq was helping get cargo shipped and she extended her deployment there to help with the drawdown of U.S. troops. She was one of the last U.S. troops to fly out of Iraq, according to a Guard news release.
Since 9/11, the North Dakota Guard has mobilized 3,800 Army Guard soldiers and more than 1,800 airmen in the Global War on Terror. Now only about 225 are deployed overseas, the lowest number in a decade. Meanwhile, about 4,000 remain in the state, the Guard said this week.
