Back at the shore for season 5, “Jersey Shore” returns Thursday to MTV with all the usual suspects: Vinny Guadagnino, Jenni “JWoww” Farley, “Pauly D” DelVecchio, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Deena Nicole Cortese and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola.

The latest reinvention has MTV with its best ratings in five years. The third season of "Jersey Shore" was the network's top-rated show ever, and the second season of "Teen Mom" similarly zoomed up the charts. The challenge now is figuring out how to build on that success and know when to be ready for the next reinvention.
Lenay Dunn just finished her first year with MTV’s “10 on Top,” a weekly recap of pop-culture highlights that was supposed to be co-hosted by Justin Bieber. When “the fever” broke out, Dunn was left doing a solo act. Not that she needs any help.
MTV's plan to put "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi inside a ball to drop from the network's Times Square headquarters has been dropped after an objection by the group that oversees the world-famous celebration. But Snooki will still drop in as part of "The MTV New Year's Bash." Her stunt has been relocated to Seaside Heights, N.J.

That’s because the boozy battle was hastily captured on a low-grade camera and posted online months before the cultural phenomenon’s second chapter is scheduled to debut.
