ST. PAUL — The state of Minnesota says its agencies have stopped using a Texas company to verify the identities of new employees. Minnesota Public Radio reported that state officials are concerned that some 500 employees’ names, birth dates and Social Security numbers may have been accessible on the company’s Web site.

Minnesota novelist Hautman's 'How To Steal A Car' is no how-to book 
Pete Hautman's research for the book was a bit out of the ordinary. "I went into one of the local Mercedes dealers and I said, 'I am writing a book about how to steal a car, and I've got a character that steals a Mercedes, and you know, can I take one of your cars for a test drive?'" Hautman said. "The guy looked at me for a long, long time. And then he reached into his desk and pulled out a key, handed it me and said, 'Bring it back.'"

Report: Minnesota hired more employees after hiring freeze 
Minnesota Public Radio News reported this morning that there were nearly 5,100 hires compared with roughly 4,800 positions that were vacated in the past 15 months. Pawlenty issued his executive order to restrict hiring on Feb. 19, 2008.
