As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I want to say thank you to Gov. Jack Dalrymple and the North Dakota Legislature for expanding access to health care coverage for thousands of North Dakotans.
North Dakota's Senate voted Tuesday to expand Medicaid to cover more uninsured residents of the state. The Republican-led chamber approved the bill 33-14. The House approved the measure 57-36 in February.
Lawmakers on two Senate committees recommended passing the proposed Medicaid expansion program that would provide insurance coverage to an estimated 20,000 North Dakotans who are currently living without.
Committee hearings are expected to be few in the coming week as senators review bills that were approved by the House and the House continues to consider Senate measures as the North Dakota Legislature heads toward its homestretch.
The North Dakota Legislature is slated to tackle some of the weightiest issues of the session as lawmakers enter their first full week after crossover. Among the highlights: Medicaid, oil taxes and the ongoing debate over selling bottle rockets in the state.
A North Dakota House committee has endorsed a measure to expand Medicaid to cover more uninsured North Dakotans. The House Human Services Committee voted 12-1 Monday to expand the program as part of the federal health care overhaul.
A group of 23 insurance, medical, family and religious organizations have signed onto a pledge supporting the state’s expansion of Medicaid, and are calling on the Legislature to enact the federal program.
