A woman who was struck and killed while walking in a construction zone in Maple Grove has been positively identified by authorities. But her name is not yet being released until her family is notified.
A Maple Grove, Minn., man pleaded not guilty Monday in Grand Forks County District Court to misspending more than $45,000 belonging to his father, who lives in a Grand Forks nursing home and has been diagnosed with dementia.
Elissa Simonson and her husband, Josh, knew the birth of their baby was imminent as they walked up the sidewalk to Maple Grove Hospital Tuesday. But as they neared the entrance, Elissa knew she couldn't make it inside. Josh says his wife got down on her knees next to a bench as he bolted into the hospital to find help.
The crash happened Tuesday afternoon at an intersection near The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. Police say the woman was standing on the sidewalk when she was hit. Police say the driver also apparently hit some cars in the area.

Ryan Daryl Krutzig, 31, of Maple Grove pleaded guilty Thursday while Jesse Scott Hoffman, 32, of St. Cloud pleaded guilty Sept. 15.
A man who escaped from the Traill County jail in Hillsboro, N.D., on Wednesday after being arrested for drunk driving was picked up in Maple Grove, Minn., on Saturday morning and arrested again for DWI and fleeing a peace officer, according to a Traill County dispatcher and information from the Hennepin County (Minn.) jail.
