Worship service today in downtown Grand Forks for American Crystal Sugar works 
Two regional Lutheran bishops will attend the ecumenical worship service at 5:30 p.m. today in United Lutheran Church downtown Grand Forks open to “persons who care about the five American Crystal Sugar plants along the (Red River) Valley – farmers/growers, union workers, management and their neighbors – to gather together simply for prayers, songs and readings from scripture,” according to organizers.

Large church in Carrington, N.D., votes to leave ELCA 
Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, N.D., voted to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. That brings to 30 the number of congregations in the twin synods bordering the Red River - or about 6 percent of the total - which have opted out of the nation's largest Lutheran body over the controversial vote in 2009 to allow clergy to live in same-sex relationships.
