U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will meet with workers today at the future site of the Central Corridor Light Rail's Union Depot Station in downtown St. Paul. He'll be touting President Obama's proposal to create jobs, which includes money for transportation infrastructure projects.
"To say they don't build 'em like this any more is an understatement," the St. Paul Pioneer Press editorial states. "The hope is that the Central Corridor (light-rail project) plus the depot will link St. Paul to the region in a new way, strengthening the East Metro as a place to live and do business."

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said during his annual State of the City address Monday that the Federal Transit Administration will sign a long-awaited "full funding grant agreement," officially committing about $460 million in federal aid toward the $957 million Central Corridor light-rail transit project.
A man killed by a light-rail train last month during a snowstorm fell off the station platform and was either knocked out or injured so badly he couldn't move, lying on the tracks until he was hit by the next train several minutes later, officials said.
