North Dakota’s Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Fargo man despite his lawyer’s argument that it was racially biased.
The lawyer for Elijah Addai said his client was stopped for questioning in the stabbing of David Delonais, Moorhead, because Addai is black.
The mini-flap over tuition waivers on North Dakota’s public university campuses suggests some legislators just don’t get it. Tuition waivers for specific classifications of university students are nothing new. They are not unique to North Dakota. They are tools that have been used effectively to enhance a university’s capacity for advanced learning and research.
Get ready for a Minnesota gubernatorial campaign that ratchets up quickly, with decisive moments and full-blown politicking coming earlier than usual. Thanks to a wide-open race and an accelerated schedule for parties to pick their candidates, voters will see the contest bloom sooner and likely encounter commercials, mail pieces and other appeals by the time summer rolls around.
I know the legislators from western North Dakota, and they are every bit as dedicated and committed to service in North Dakota as anyone.
I feel Ryan Bakken owes them and all legislators an apology for this characterization.
A proposal from the state Transportation Department and the Aeronautics Commission to trade in two 30-year-old planes for one newer one is on hold.
Representatives of the two agencies told the state Emergency Commission that sharing a new plane would save money. They said the old planes need repairs.
