Strange, isn't it? Bill Guy served as governor of North Dakota from 1961 to 1973. But when you read others' recollections of that service, you might find yourself forgetting that the era was one of the most divisive in the 20th century.
Fifty years ago today, North Dakotans awoke to the news that William Langer had died. Perhaps no person in the state’s history had so many ardent friends as this man, nor so many bitter enemies. Nor has any other commanded the headlines in quite the way that Langer did.
