Col. Donald Shaffer takes command of GFAFB Col. Donald L. Shaffer, the new commander at Grand Forks Air Force Base, said he fully intends to continue the work of his predecessor, Col. John E. Michel, improving base infrastructure and competing for new missions.
An Air Force assistant secretary is visiting Grand Forks Air Force Base. The base says Daniel Ginsberg, an assistant secretary for manpower and reserve affairs, wants to hear from the airmen and take a look at programs offered on the base.
Grand Forks Air Force Base’s unmanned aircraft mission is just the beginning of what unmanned aircraft will mean for the region and the state, base commander Col. John Michel told the Economic Development Association of North Dakota on Tuesday.
The base commander at Grand Forks Air Force Base has been reassigned and will take command at a base in Illinois next month.
Col. John Michel said he was notified of the reassignment last Thursday. A change of command ceremony will be held at 3:19 p.m. Nov. 13, significant because he is commanding the 319th Air Refueling Wing.
