Promoting her new “adult” novel “The Casual Vacancy,” Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling finds it amusing that the most famous “adult” fiction of the moment is the erotic trilogy “50 Shades of Grey.” But, she says, there’s a big difference. “The difference should be, people have sex in this book but no one really enjoys it,” she said of her own book at a reading in New York on Tuesday night.
“The Casual Vacancy,” which hits the shelves on Thursday, looks destined for the top of the bestseller lists whatever the reaction, with Rowling’s celebrity status guaranteeing public anticipation and media attention in equal measure.
It may lack wizards and witches, but J.K. Rowling and her publisher are hoping her first novel for adults, "The Casual Vacancy," will have the magic touch. The book's title was announced Thursday by Little, Brown & Co. along with a brief plot synopsis and publication date.
