High winds, blowing snow and icy roads contributed to an accident between a semi-trailer and a North Dakota Highway Patrol cruiser Thursday morning near the Pembina, N.D., port of entry, according to the patrol.

A 65-year-old man is dead after the van he was driving on Interstate 29 left the roadway and crashed into a bridge pillar at the 52nd Avenue South overpass this morning in Fargo, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 62-year-old female passenger was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
A heavily used bridge over Interstate 29 in north Fargo could be out of commission for most of this week after a sinkhole was discovered at the base of the overpass on Sunday, a city official said. Traffic is being detoured away from the Seventh Avenue North overpass because of the sinkhole, which measures about 2 feet deep and 3 feet wide, said Lee Anderson, Fargo Public Works maintenance supervisor.
Authorities say Jesus Gonzalez was driving a dump truck Thursday when he pulled over to the shoulder and got out to inspect the truck. He was struck by a recreational vehicle driven by 66-year-old Roger Beiswenger of Fisher, Minn.
