The father of one of the three, Al Bauer, hosted a potluck gathering at Jackson Township Hall near Shakopee, Minn., Sunday. Community members organized the "Free the Hikers" campaign and helped send family members to Washington to push for their release.
Shane Bauer arrived this week at his mother's rural home near Pine City with his fiancée, Sarah Shourd. His mother, Cindy Hickey, says the visit has been filled with walks in the country, sing-alongs around the fire and cooking meals together.

Omani officials say a plane from the Gulf state is in Iran's capital to carry the pair out of the country if a bail-for-freedom deal is reached. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Hassan Dannaie Fir, Iran's ambassador to Iraq, said he doesn't have any specific details about when Shane Bauer, a former Minnesotan, and Josh Fattal would be freed from Evin Prison in northern Tehran. But he described a general sympathy for the two men, both 29, especially during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month that began Monday.
The former boxing champion Muhammad Ali today led a prominent group of U.S. Muslims in appealing for the release of Shane Bauer, a former Minnesotan, and Josh Fattal. The 28-year-old Americans were taken into custody along the Iran-Iraq border in July 2009 and have been held by Iranian authorities ever since.
