A new report on health care quality being released today shows that the rate of clinic patients getting optimal care for diabetes and vascular conditions was flat between 2008 and 2009. What's more, the rate of Minnesotans getting preventive care such as breast cancer screenings or childhood immunizations either decreased slightly or stayed flat.
The Minnesota Department of Health says a woman in her 80s from southeastern Minnesota died last week from complications of the H3 strain of flu virus. Earlier this month, another woman in her 80s from the Twin Cities area died after contracting the same strain.
Appearing this morning on nationally broadcast news shows, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said officials now have a supply of about 16.5 million doses of the vaccine, while conceding that's millions of doses below the amount needed.
