Grand Forks welcomed in the Yule season 50 years ago by lighting the official community tree at the Park E-Z. That was at Third Street and First Avenue North. There was group singing and plans to pipe music of the season into the business area during days of shopping.
Kylie Oversen will travel to Washington this week for a White House holiday reception. That much is known to the Grand Forks state legislator, but what exactly the reception will entail and why she was invited remain a bit unclear.
Dorm residents on the Grand Forks Air Force Base received home-baked holiday cookies Monday as part of an air base tradition. More than 60 people donated 440 dozen cookies for personnel in the dorms who have been on the base less than three years, said Bonnie Bauman, co-chair of the cookie drive.
