With 82 percent of Bakery Workers union members voting, 63 percent voted against the contract. The labor dispute has been ongoing since July 31 when members first voted on the contract. Since then, about 1,300 workers have been locked out and management has hired temporary replacement workers.
It wasn't a lightbulb that inspired Aaron McWilliams and his wife Sara, but a candle in a wine bottle. They've developed a candle that channels dripping wax so it can be reused to stretch the burn time. And they'v managed to mass produce the thing at their new factory.
Management says still hope to bring back union workers
For now, it's looking to hire more replacements, but hope to save on more from not having to pay room-and-board for out-of-town workers. One executive said American Crystal now recognizes that lock-out of union workers will last much longer than anticipated.
Two non-union American Crystal Sugar Co. workers claim they and a third non-union worker were called names and threatened with retribution by picketing union workers while holding up their own signs this week outside the company’s sugar processing plant in Hillsboro.
For a change, there’s no sure thing in Hillsboro’s wrestling lineup.
Over the last three seasons, the Burros had wrestlers such as Tanner Boeddeker, Andrew Grothmann and Anthony Von Ruden — individuals who rarely lost and could be counted on to win in every tournament. Boedekker was a state champion last season, while Von Ruden and Grothmann won in 2009, the second straight for Grothmann.
