Organizers of a fundraiser in Wadena are looking for a few good men manly enough to participate in a beauty pageant. And, yes, facial hair is OK. “What we need are a few men who are strong enough to compete like a woman,” said Bonnie Kingsley who is organizing the “Miss Tootsie” pageant in January as a fundraiser for the Miss Wadena Scholarship Pageant.

The Stark County (N.D.) sheriff said preliminary autopsy results show drowning as the cause of death of three college softball players whose sport utility vehicle went into a livestock pond in southwestern North Dakota. The bodies of Kyrstin Gemar, 22, San Diego; Afton Williamson, 20, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; and Ashley Neufeld, 21, Brandon, Man., were found Tuesday inside the SUV. It was submerged about 10 feet of water in a pond north of Dickinson.

A government panel has recommended that certain groups be placed at the front of the line for swine flu vaccinations this fall, including pregnant women, health care workers, and children six months and older.
One flu expert says there’s no reason to believe the new virus is a more serious strain than seasonal flu. And a federal health official said the new flu virus doesn’t appear to have genes that made the 1918 pandemic flu strain so deadly. But it’s too soon to draw any definitive conclusions about what this variation of the H1N1 virus will do.
