Fire department rules Wednesday's apartment fire was accidental 
According to the department, the fire started in a vacant apartment under renovation on the third floor of the structure and was accidental in nature. The fire was caused when maintenance workers were trying to repair a broken water pipe.

Juvenile caused apartment blaze, according to Grand Forks Fire Department
The Grand Forks Fire Department has determined a fire that rendered a 12-unit Grand Forks apartment building unlivable on Friday morning was caused by a juvenile.A release by the department said its investigation showed a CD storage case was set on fire in the juvenile’s bedroom, and it spread from there. Grand Forks Police Detective Duane Simon said the juvenile male will be charged with endangerment by fire in juvenile court.

Two veteran GF firefighters to retire
The Grand Forks Fire Department will lose close to 70 years of experience with the Saturday retirements of firefighters Rick Coulter and Jerry Vein.
Coulter, 62, joined the department in 1972. He served as a firefighter, firetruck driver and captain before he was promoted to battalion chief in 1999.
