Jen Peterson and her three young children left their home with no place to go when it got to be unsafe. “My kids and I became homeless fleeing a marriage that had become dangerous,” the Cottage Grove City Council member said Thursday. That was more than two decades ago, but Peterson said there are many more like her and homelessness continues to be a major issue in Minnesota.
Last year, a group of UND finance students made a killing on the stock market, enjoying a return that was nearly 10 percentage points better than the S&P 500 index. Altogether, the funds were up 35.9 percent. The more than 30 students manage roughly $800,000 in two funds.
Opponents of the decision in Minneapolis last month by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to permit gay ministers meet this weekend to discuss their options, including a split from the ELCA. Organizers of the conservative ELCA group Lutheran CORE have capped attendance at the meeting in Indianapolis at 1,200, well above the average annual attendance of 300.
