In a way, the Fourth of July is no different. But most foods are easier to prepare and you would be hard pressed to pick just one or two that epitomizes the day that Americans celebrate as Independence Day.
The Grand Forks-area night sky will once again be filled with bright lights and loud noises this Fourth of July with fireworks like “Rockin’ the Bakken” and “Minot Magic.” And Grand Forks firework retailers say pyrotechnics will be plentiful as sales are up and customers are purchasing big-ticket fireworks to celebrate the holiday.
In observance of Independence Day, most city, county and state offices will be closed today, except for emergency services. In Grand Forks, city offices will be closed today and several city services will take the day off as well.
Odell and LaVonne Berg will welcome family and friends Wednesday to an old-fashioned Fourth of July at the Berg Bunkhouse. On Wednesday, after the parade, guests will enjoy food, fun and games at the couple’s farm home. About 20 years ago, the couple converted a bunkhouse, built in 1935, from housing for farm workers into a combination kitchen and family room.
