Overloaded outlet causes Grand Forks home fire 
A north Grand Forks home was damaged by fire Sunday night. Officials said Monday the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical circuit, with caused the wires to heat up and ignited nearby combustible materials. The fire is being ruled as accidental.

Reported crime in Grand Forks hits 15-year low 
The number of reported crimes in Grand Forks hit a 15-year low in 2011, but property crimes and drug offenses were on the rise. Grand Forks had 9,193 reported crimes last year, the fewest since the flood year of 1997, according to the police department’s annual report released Monday.

Saturday's fire in the Dietrich Bus building, 1115 N. 55th St., caused about $125,000 in damage, Rod Hadland, battalion chief with the Grand Forks Fire Department, said Sunday in a news release.
