Duluth woman accused of wrongfully obtaining welfare benefits has been sentenced to three years probation. Tari Lauer, 43, was also ordered Friday to pay back nearly $20,000 in public assistance she wrongfully received.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Emergency room nurse Erin Riley suffered bruises, scratches and a chipped tooth last year from trying to pull the clamped jaws of a psychotic patient off the hand of a doctor at a suburban Cleveland hospital.
Abayte Ahmed said through an interpreter Sunday that she and her husband, who live in Minneapolis, identified their son, Jamal Bana, in a photo on a Somali news Web site, Dayniile.com, showing a dead body in Somalia. Bana’s father saw the photo Saturday morning during his daily check of news reports on the fighting in that country.
