With an overwhelming majority, the Rev. Larry Wohlrabe was re-elected to a second six-year term over the weekend as bishop of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
A gay pastor who made national headlines after being removed from the official clergy roster of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for being in a same-sex relationship has been overwhelmingly approved as the new senior pastor of the denomination's largest St. Paul church.
Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, N.D., voted to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. That brings to 30 the number of congregations in the twin synods bordering the Red River - or about 6 percent of the total - which have opted out of the nation's largest Lutheran body over the controversial vote in 2009 to allow clergy to live in same-sex relationships.

For the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America -- and other Protestant churches -- more churches with different backgrounds and races are needed. But getting diverse people into the same church is often not that easy. Minnesota has the largest number of ELCA members of any state, with close to 800,000 baptized members. Nationwide, the ELCA has nearly 4.5 million members. Only about 3 percent are people of color.
This is a well-written document that is fair to all aspects of agriculture. I believe this document to be an excellent starting point for a bridge between urban and rural, one that could help explain how genetic technology fits into agriculture today.
