An Apple Inc. lawyer is using Winnie-the-Pooh and tens of millions of customers too to try to convince a judge that the computer giant did not manipulate e-book prices when it opened an online bookstore.
In a civil case where the words of Steve Jobs play prominently, the government and Apple Inc. are set to square off over allegations that Apple Inc. conspired with the country's largest book publishers to make consumers pay more for electronic books.
The Justice Department and 15 states sued Apple Inc. and major book publishers Wednesday, alleging a conspiracy to raise the price of electronic books they said cost consumers more than $100 million in the past two years by adding $2 to $5 to the price of each e-book.

Physical books still most popular, but e-books growing in use As more readers are embracing pixels over printed pages, the popularity of e-readers is helping the Grand Forks library and others attract patrons to its electronic collections. At the same time, the free materials offered by libraries may be prompting more consumers to buy e-readers, such as the Nook or the Kindle.
Author J.K. Rowling announced Thursday that her seven Potter novels will be sold as e-books starting in October — ending the boy wizard's status as one of the highest-profile holdouts against digital publishing.
This is a big step for e-books, which have lingered outside the mainstream for nearly two decades even as digital media have conquered music and film distribution. Amazon’s move combines a readily available device that’s suitable for reading with a good distribution system and reasonably priced books.
