Downtown is the living room of your community, or so the saying goes. It’s the place where you gather for entertainment and socializing, invite visitors and, ultimately, tell the story of what your community values.
The Grand Forks School Board will not discuss a proposal concerning plans for a parking lot or facility near Central High School tonight. The topic may be discussed at the board’s next meeting, on April 10.
A downtown Grand Forks store was burglarized late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, according to police. According to police, someone pried open an outside door at True Colors at 6 Third Street North, near DeMers Avenue. The door, as well as an interior door and the cash register, were damaged. A small amount of money was missing, as was a laptop computer.
Grand Forks city officials have grand plans for a “downtown entry” off the DeMers Avenue Overpass that would include “iconic” features, as part of the redevelopment of the former Civic Auditorium property into apartment buildings plus some common and green space.
Downtown Grand Forks is looking a little greener as a result of a joint effort between city departments and business owners. Twelve ceramic planters containing an assortment of flowers, mostly petunias, and decorative evergreens have popped up at intersections.
The Grand Cities Art Fest is Grand Forks and East Grand Forks at their best. Residents from across the region are encouraged to join the crowds, browse the art and enjoy the life of a Great American (Small) City for themselves.
Wal-Mart is looking to get into the liquor business in Grand Forks, city documents show. The retail juggernaut is applying for an off-sale liquor license for a store within its store, called “Ozark Spirits.”
East Grand Forks floodwall erected downtown on Monday
East Grand Forks got the southern half of its "invisible floodwall" erected downtown on Monday and was planning to get the northern half up Tuesday, but the big storm could get in the way.
Bismarack's downtown area has seen stirrings of new life in recent years as a small number of new businesses attract more visitors to the area. The development has not yet been matched by new people calling the area home, but there is new construction in the works and signs of more demand.
