For the first time in 20 years, all six members of the International Trans-Antarctica Expedition -- the dog-sled trek across Antarctica led by Minnesota adventurer Will Steger -- have joined together for a 20th-anniversary reunion of the record-setting 1990 feat.
Corlew began dog sledding about 10 years ago after her golden retriever died. She and her husband, Robert Newman, decided to replace their pet with dogs more suited to northern climates, so they bought an Alaskan malamute and a Samoyed.
“We fell in love with those breeds.” But Corlew, who snow-shoed while her husband skijored with the dogs, couldn’t keep up. She bought a small sled and started dog sleding.
