Frolf-a-Palooza starts today 
Frolf-a-Palooza, a three-day disc golf tournament and music fest, starts today at Grand Forks’ Lincoln Drive Park. Teams of two pay $8 to play 18 holes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday.

Disc golf tourney set for this weekend 
Grand Forks is getting its first professional disc golf tournament this weekend. Travis Hagen, president of the Grand Forks Disc Golf Association, said he’s expecting more than 200 players to show. As part of the official Professional Disc Golf Association tour, he said, pros that play in the Grand Forks tourney get to count points for the tour.

Park District to vote tonightInstead of 4-2-0 Frolf, the event at Lincoln Drive Park will be called Frolf-a-palooza, a reference to the alternate name for disc golf, Frisbee golf, and the alternative music festival Lolapalooza.

One toke over the line? 
There’s a few snags with a disc golf tournament that has been billed as the next signature event for Grand Forks, starting with its name: 4-2-0 Frolf. Frolf is short for “Frisbee golf,” another name for the game, and 4-2-0 is a sequence of numbers that’s just a little too close to 420, the slang term for smoking pot.

Big disc golf event coming to GF 
Last summer, when Hugo “Achilles” Gomez sent out a bunch of flyers mentioning a disc golf tournament in Grand Forks’ Lincoln Drive Park, he said about 800 players eventually dropped in throughout the day. Gomez wants to make it even better this year with family activities, a beer garden, music and lots of sponsors. The plan is to hold the event the weekend of Aug. 14 to 16.
