Lake Region State College restarting volleyball program
Brigitte Freschette didn’t know Lake Region State College had dropped its volleyball program several years ago until she was hired as a counselor at the school last summer. In less than a month after her arrival, however, volleyball again was a part of the LRSC athletic program. And Freschette found herself in charge of resurrecting the dormant program. Since taking the position as head coach on a volunteer basis last September, Freschette has been putting the pieces together for a team that will play a varsity schedule in the fall.

UND hockey coach Dave Hakstol named coach of the year
UND's Dave Hakstol has been named Inside College Hockey’s 2011-12 National Coach of the Year in men's hockey. Hakstol led UND to a league-record third consecutive Broadmoor Trophy as Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Final Five champion, as well as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Region and a berth in the regional championship game.

Minnesota-Duluth's Jack Connolly awarded Hobey Baker
Minnesota-Duluth center Jack Connolly won the Hobey Baker Award on Friday night as the top college hockey player. A Duluth native and Dallas Stars draft pick, Connolly had 20 goals and 40 assists in 41 games this season. He had 66 goals and 131 assists in 166 career games, leading the Bulldogs to the national title last year.
