The inaugural “State of the Military” event was a chance for Chamber of Commerce members to thank those serving in the armed forces as well as an opportunity for community members to hear how the military is doing.
Despite this heavy-handed attempt to bully our leaders into silence, Keep It Local North Dakota will continue to disseminate the truth about the severe damage Measure 2 would inflict upon our state. We hope the courts will settle this matter quickly so a forthright, respectful debate can occur.
Ensuring fairer rules and fewer delays in the state’s regulatory landscape is among the Minnesota Chamber’s top priorities for the 2012 Legislature. It is at the foundation of ensuring a strong business environment, and, in doing so, maintaining and creating jobs for Minnesotans.
The traffic will be pretty heavy this morning and there may be a bunch of egg shells around the Blue Moose in East Grand Forks. The Chamber is holding its annual EGGStravaganza. It’s a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, pancakes, juice and coffee. They were selling tickets up until Wednesday.
Many Republicans believe they must take this pledge to be elected to state or federal offices. Of course, their taking this pledge directly attacks our democracy, our economic health and our Constitutional protections.
Longtime Grand Forks businessman Dave McFarlane is moving to Florida For the past 15 years, businessman Dave McFarlane has become one of Grand Forks’ most well-connected residents, chairing the Chamber of Commerce, running the mayor’s election campaign, even playing a “celebrity” in the city’s own version of Dancing With the Stars.
What we as members of rural chambers know is that the state’s reliance on property taxes has hurt businesses — and those located in greater Minnesota have been hit the hardest, which is why we don’t want to see history repeating itself.
Former UND student Michael Shope will be honored as the young entrepreneur of the year for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Region VIII, which includes six Midwest and Mountain states. The Chamber will also honor SBA business persons of the year in North Dakota and Minnesota and winners of The Chamber’s Mike Maidenberg Emerging Leader Award and the regional Athena Award.
The Minnesota Budget Trends Study Commission identified growth in health care as the most important factor in controlling rising state expenditures. It’s time for policymakers to act on those reform recommendations that improve the way we care for our most vulnerable citizens while developing a system that is sustainable and effective.
