A plan that would offer $10,000 buyouts to teachers has been defeated by a tie vote of the school board. Twenty-one veteran teachers who were at least 55 years old and have taught in the school district for at least 15 years would have been eligible to receive the money if they would retire. But board members defeated the proposal, at least for now, by a 3-3 vote.
