North Dakota's Game and Fish Department is prohibiting overnight camping on some wildlife management areas in the western oil patch, where a housing shortage has forced many people to take shelter wherever they can find it.
The company that won the contract to create a new reservation system for Minnesota's state parks made big promises, including "vastly improved functionality" at lower cost, and insisted it didn't have any dissatisfied customers.
Marc Landblom said the petition drive is necessary because too little is being done to protect the Badlands and other public lands. The impact of the oil boom, he said, has been a “disaster” for North Dakota’s wild places.
North Dakota state parks officially open May 18, but reservations can be made 24 hours a day with the exception of the first day of the 95-day window. On Tuesday, reservations can be made starting at 7 a.m.
