Two Iraq War veterans eager to slake a growing American thirst for craft beer are setting up a brewery less than a mile from the main runway for the Navy's East Coast master jet base. Their beers have names like "Jet Noise Double IPA and "Pineapple Grenade Hefeweizen." And their motto strikes a military chord: "Brewing With the Freedom We Fought For."
Minnesota is undergoing a "beer boom" and catching up with the rest of the country. In just the last two years, the number of breweries in the state has nearly doubled to 53, driving a proliferation of local beers.
Three area residents are one step closer to selling their beer on local taps.
The federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau recently approved Bemidji Brewing Co.’s plans to brew at Harmony Co-op’s community kitchen for commercial sales.
