If valley residents like the recreation and convenience that bike trails offer, now is the time to speak up. That's because the funding source that has built most of the modern bike trails in America is at risk.
Most of the 50 miles of paved bike trails in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks are already open to the public, according to city officials.
Al Grasser, city engineer for Grand Forks, said construction crews will redo the trail between 17th Avenue South and 24th Avenue South that runs along the English Coulee. That trail currently is 8 feet wide and has an asphalt surface, but when completed it will be 10 feet wide and made of concrete.
