A former trust officer at a Dickinson bank sobbed in court Wednesday as she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Betty Kolling was accused of plotting with her husband, Wally, to steal almost $800,000 from five clients at the Bank of the West in Dickinson.
State Bank & Trust, based here, is changing its name to Bell State Bank, a step that will be formally completed by late September. The bank will keep the tree logo that has long been identified with State Bank & Trust, said Michael Solberg, president of the bank.
A Cass County man is facing several felony charges after he was arrested for a string of thefts in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Forty-eight-year-old Paul Baumler of Leonard, N.D. is being held in the Cass County Jail.
The state-owned Bank of North Dakota set a record last year with $70.3 million in profits. The bank's annual report says it's the eighth straight year the state-owned bank has set an income record. The report was made public Thursday. The Bank of North Dakota had almost $62 million in profits in 2010.
Sixty-five-year-old Carolyn Faye Hampel, of Jackson, entered the plea to embezzlement by a bank officer during a hearing in federal court in St. Paul Tuesday. Hampel admitted stealing between $30,000 and $120,000 from customers of the United Prairie Bank from 2005 to 2011.
An Underwood woman claims Gate City Bank has forced her and other customers to run up unnecessary overdraft charges. Amber Pieloor has filed a lawsuit in federal district court. She wants it to be expanded to include other Gate City customers who she says were treated the same way.
