Four counties within the Little Missouri National Grassland have gone to court seeking authority to build roads in areas now managed as roadless and eligible for wilderness. Conservationists say this would imperil a proposal to designate pockets of the grasslands as wilderness areas.
Preservationists on Wednesday added more American institutions to the list of the country's most endangered historic places. President Theodore Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch in North Dakota's Badlands, which inspired his views on conservation, is facing development of a road and bridge project that would "mar" the landscape and "stain Roosevelt's legacy of conservation," the group said.
It will be “Home on the Range” this summer for actor Misti Koop as the Grand Forks/East Grand Forks native returns to North Dakota for the Medora musical which opens June 8 and runs nightly through Sept. 8.
Visitors to Medora, N.D., this summer will find new activities and attractions, ranging from kids’ activities and entertainment to shopping and history, in addition to the return of the Medora musical opening June 8.
The influx of these workers and the support industries they require appears to be reaching crisis proportions in our western communities. Water and air quality are likely to deteriorate along with traditional community identities and values.
Marc Landblom said the petition drive is necessary because too little is being done to protect the Badlands and other public lands. The impact of the oil boom, he said, has been a “disaster” for North Dakota’s wild places.
