Badger may be the Mallard Capital of Minnesota, but it’s usually not a summer vacation destination spot. It was this summer, however, for Bob and Jen Westerfield and their family, including 5-year-old twins Ben and Boyd and 3-year-old Elle.
A man and woman from Badger, Minn., are scheduled to appear Tuesday (Tuesday)in Minnesota district court in Roseau in connection with the homicide of a Badger man Saturday, said Sheriff Steve Gust Monday.
A detour now in place on Minnesota Highway 11 is expected to change next week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced. The detour currently in place from Greenbush to Badger is expected to end Tuesday, and a second-phase detour will begin Wednesday.
Students were cut and bruised, but not seriously injured Tuesday morning near Roseau, Minn., when a semi-truck collided with a Badger School District bus with eight students on board, causing the bus to tip on its side. The truck driver was cited.
Straight-line winds, at times reaching 85 to 95 mph, extended a dozen or more miles wide at times while moving from Drayton, N.D., to Roseau, Minn., on Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.
Samantha Wahl, 19, was headed east in a ditch about four miles east of Greenbush, Minn., about 7:15 p.m. She moved to go around a driveway on the inside slope and flipped the 2000 Polaris 400. Wahl fell off the ATV, and its tire struck her, causing bruises and a cut to her head.
