U.S. residents finally replacing cars and trucks, boosting vehicle production 
People are finally replacing the cars and trucks they held on to during the economic slump, giving a big boost to U.S. auto sales in November. Chrysler, Ford, Nissan and Hyundai were among the companies reporting double-digit gains from last November, which is normally a lackluster month because of colder weather and holiday distractions. This November, buyers were lured by good deals, improving confidence in the economy and the need to trade in older cars.

New car buyers may have to wait until fall to find bargains 
New car buyers looking for a bargain this summer may have to wait. Dealers usually offer discounts during the warmer months to clear out older models, but cars are in short supply this year because of the Japan earthquake and other factors.

Domestic auto sales show promise 
GM’s July sales rose 2.6 percent from the previous month and 5 percent from July of last year. Ford said its sales from June to July were flat, but were up 3 percent compared with July last year.

Chrysler, Ford report sharp sales drops in 2009 
Chrysler Group LLC posted its worst sales in 47 years, selling just over 931,000 cars and trucks. It was the first time sales dropped below 1 million since 1962. Ford Motor Co. said full-year sales declined 15 percent, but the company said it posted its first full-year gain in U.S. market share since 1995.

September retail sales fall 1.5% post Clunkers
