The high bid for a set of letters that formerly spelled out “Home of the Fighting Sioux” on the exterior of UND’s Ralph Engelstad Arena stood at $7,100 Friday. The online auction started Monday and will continue until 8 p.m. Friday. Payment must be received by April 5, according to the arena’s website, TheRalph.com.
The now-faded blue gingham dress Judy Garland wore in "The Wizard of Oz" has sold for $480,000. Auction house Julien's Auctions says the pinafore fetched the highest price of any item during a two-day auction of Hollywood memorabilia that attracted bids from around the world.
Celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien said Sunday the pieces and other Houston items became available after the singer's unexpected death on Feb. 11 and will be included among a long-planned sale of Hollywood memorabilia such as Charlie Chaplin's cane, Clark Gable's jacket from "Gone With the Wind" and Charlton Heston's staff from "The Ten Commandments."

A local group that serves and promotes native people and their culture is sponsoring a fundraising event Saturday night in Grand Forks that will feature a traditional meal and performances by native singers, dancers and flute players. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Saturday for “Rendezvous at the Forks,” officially set to begin at 6 p.m. at Knights of Columbus, 601 University Ave., sponsored by the Northstar Council. People will be able to check out the silent auction and raffle and enjoy the entertainment before the meal is served at about 7 p.m.
