The Army will eliminate at least 12 combat brigades, relocate thousands of soldiers and cancel $400 million in construction projects as the first wave of federal budget cuts takes aim at military communities around the country.
It is still not known if the soldier accused of killing 17 Afghans was ever diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder — but even if he had been, that alone would not have prevented him from being sent back to war.
Fort Hood announced Brig. Gen. Terence Hildner's death today in a statement posted on its website. Hildner had commanded the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command at Fort Hood since August 2010. He left for Afghanistan in December to support the NATO mission there.
The U.S. Army will end the helicopter training UND has provided for ROTC cadets since the 1980s, it announced Friday. A statement released by the Army’s Cadet Command said it no longer had the money for the training.
