The jury deliberated for about 2 1/2 hours in the case of Vicente Chacano before recessing until Thursday. Chacano is on trial on 14 counts of attempted murder in the incident that happened about a year ago in the Adams County Courthouse in Hettinger.
Witnesses in the trial of a man accused of pulling a gun in a western North Dakota courtroom testified Tuesday about a chaotic scene with people screaming and taking cover while the defendant unsuccessfully pulled the trigger several times.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple says U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has agreed to include seven additional counties where farmers suffered crop production losses due to flooding, frost damage and other weather-related causes. Those counties are Adams, Bowman, Burleigh, Logan, Morton, Slope and Stark.
Judge Steven McCullough granted the motion to move Vicente Chacano's trial on 14 counts of attempted murder. Defense attorney Robert Quick had made the request, saying it would be difficult to find impartial jurors in Adams County.
Authorities estimate damage at more than $30,000 to the Hettinger Golf Course after weekend vandalism.
